Kathmandu, 03 July, (Asiantribune.com):
United Nations Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon has asked political parties in Nepal to take initiatives to form national consensus government.
Ban said the resignation of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Wednesday had paved way for the formation of consensus government to help take the ongoing peace process to a logical end and promulgate new constitution on time. Ban said government formed on majority basis will help to conclude peace and promulgate new constitution on time.
“The Secretary-General encourages all parties in Nepal to intensify their efforts towards the formation of a consensus government that would prioritize the implementation of all peace process commitments,” said Ban’s spokesperson in a press statement, Friday.
“The Secretary-General also urges speedy progress on the issue of the integration and rehabilitation of Maoist army personnel,” the spokesperson said further.
Ban’s call for forming national consensus government comes at a time when all major parties have expedited talks to form new government.
The UCPN (Maoist) and Nepali Congress (NC), which stand the largest and the second largest party in the constituent assembly, respectively, have staked claim for leading new government.
